Item Description
Original Items: Only One Set Available. During WWII, the Allied Italian Campaign lasted from July 10, 1943 – May 8, 1945, with Rome being liberated a few days before the D-Day landings in France. This gave USGI's plenty of time to acquire medals from Italian soldiers, which were popular collector's items. We assume this collection was assembled during the liberation and occupation of Italy.
Here we have a lovely set of 8 Italian medals from the WWI & WWII Era, 7 of which have ribbons. Along with these is a hand embroidered bullion "Fascist Insignia", which has a black background with a Fascine (Bundle of sticks) with an Axe on it. The insignia and medals are all in good used condition.
From what we can tell, the medals included are:
- WWI War Merit Cross for Military Valor with Blue / White Ribbon
- WWI Italian Allied Victory Medal with Rainbow Ribbon
- WWI Commemorative Medal for the Italo-Austrian War 1915–1918 with Green / White / Red repeating pattern ribbon.
- Pre-WWI Commemorative Medal for the Italo-Turkish War 1911-1912 with Blue & Red Striped Ribbon
- WWI Commemorative Medal of the Unity of Italy 1848 - 1918 with R/W/G/W/R ribbon.
- Pre-WWI Umberto I Commemorative Medal of the Unity of Italy 1848 - 1870 with white striped red ribbon.
-Pre-WWII Fascist Commemorative Medal for the March on Rome 1922 with Yellow & Brown Ribbon
- One Small Unidentified medal, which looks to be commemorating an 1822 Exposition.
