Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful example of a WWII Italian M1938 folding bayonet. This unique folding knife bayonet was designed for use on the Beretta M38A Sub-Machine Gun, also called the MAB 38 (Moschetto Automatico Beretta Modello 1938). This bayonet design was heavily based on the folding bayonet designed for the Mannlicher-Carcano M1938 Short Rifle (fucile corto), with the main differences being the muzzle ring and attachment mechanism. These are very rare to find in the original configuration such as this.
This example is the push-button folding model, where blade folds into handle like a pocket knife. This was done because the bayonet was intended to remain fixed to the SMG during regular use. When the bayonet was not needed, it would be folded up under the barrel jacket. It did not fold into a slot as the Carcano version did.
This particular example is complete and has not been modified into a fixed configuration, so it still folds up correctly. Overall condition is very good, with functional rear catch and original finish on blade and wood grips. A wonderful rare bayonet perfect for any WWII Italian or bayonet collection.
