Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. The Rising Sun Flag design was originally used by feudal warlords in Japan during the Edo period. On May 15, 1870, as a policy of the Meiji government, it was adopted as the war flag of the Imperial Japanese Army, and on October 7, 1889, it was adopted as the naval ensign of the Imperial Japanese Navy (Naval flags have the sun off center to the left). Neither of these flags are common on the market, but the Naval flag is especially rare.
This is a silk single panel rising sun flag that measures 36 x 26 in excellent condition. It features silk ties at corners to the staff side and finely stitched borders. These are always hard to find in good condition especially ones made from silk. Certainly a USGI bring back from World War Two.
