Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a genuine Marine Corps Noncomissioned Officers (NCO) sword, with a lovely triple etched stainless steel blade, made by the firm N.S. Meyer Inc. in Germany. The NCO sword was adopted in 1859 and is patterned after the United States Army's foot officers' sword of 1850. We have had examples from the Indian Wars era, and the design has remained unchanged, even up to today.
The blade is etched with UNITED STATES MARINES as well as the EGA on both sides, and is in excellent condition, with only some minor damage to the unsharpened edge. The plate is retained almost fully, and it even has the standard 6 pointed star around a brass plug that is stamped PROVED over a Fleur-de-lis.
The hilt is fit with the typical brass basket guard, which its the pattern exactly. Originally it was gilt, but now has faded to a lovely oxidized brass patina. It has the correct curved grip, and has a leather covered wooden handle, with fully intact wire wrapping. The original blade washer is present and has kept the 29 3/4" blade tight to the hilt. The blade ricasso is etched with the N.S. Meyer trademark and stock number:
