Original Ottoman Flintlock Jezail Musket with Portuguese Contract British Lock- Circa 1820

Item Description

Original Item: One-of-a-kind. The jezail (sometimes Jezzail from the Arabic) is a simple, cost-efficient and typically handmade muzzle-loading long arm commonly used in the Middle East region in the past. This is most interesting in the the Flintlock Mechanism is British Made for a Portuguese contract around 1805, probably for a horse pistol delivered during the Peninsula Campaign under WELLINGTON during the Napoleonic Wars which ended in 1815.

The long arm is almost full stocked in a dark hard wood. The butt, wrist and action area heavily carved with decoration. The mounts are all decorated and there is a most impressive "garland of Laurel Leaves" all around the lock opening in SILVER. One piece of the brass inlay missing from fore end, which could easily be replaced. Barrel with faux Armorer's cartouches measures 57" and the Musket is 73" in overall length. Very impressive and ready to display.
