Item Description

Original Items: Only One Lot of 71 Available. The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) (Filipino: Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas) are the military forces of the Philippines. It consists of three main service branches; the Army, the Air Force, and the Navy (including the Marine Corps). The President of the Philippines is the Commander-in-Chief of the AFP and forms military policy with the Department of National Defense, an executive department acting as the principal organ by which military policy is carried out, while the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines serves as the overall commander and the highest-ranking officer in the AFP. The Philippine Coast Guard also serves as an attached service of the AFP in wartime. Military service is entirely voluntary.

Military patches were first observed in the 1800s, where British troops wore them. Only high-ranking officers were allowed to wear these patches, and the patches themselves were only allowed to be worn on the uniform. The patches were made of gold thread and were worn on the left breast of the uniform.

Not long after, the United States also decided to practice this tradition during the American Civil War. Both factions of the war, the Union and Confederate soldiers, wore different patches that identified them along with their respective blue or gray.

Military patches have been and continue to be an important part of military tradition, and the interest of collectors has grown over time. These patches are all in lovely condition and still very vibrant in color. The patches range from mostly the 1960s and 1980s with a handful being more modern.

Patches of Note:
- 1st Scout Ranger Regiment: The patch features their “mascot” a crouching black panther ready to strike. The Scout Rangers, known officially as the First Scout Ranger Regiment, is a Philippine Army unit specializing in anti-guerrilla jungle warfare, raids, ambushes, close quarters combat, urban warfare and sabotage. Their headquarters is based at Camp Simon Tecson in San Miguel, Bulacan.

The First Scout Ranger Regiment was formed on November 25, 1950, under the command of former AFP Vice Chief of Staff and Defense Secretary Rafael M. Ileto The unit was modeled after the Alamo Scouts and the US Army Rangers. The FSSR was created due to a growing need to counter the Hukbalahap guerrillas with a force trained in small unit actions. Initially known as the Scout Ranger Training Unit (SRTU), they were made up of 5 man teams, made up of one officer and 4 enlisted men. SRTU teams used deep penetration tactics to infiltrate Huk-held territory and take out their units. In 1954, the Army decided to combine all active SRTU units into the 1st Scout Ranger Regiment.

- Special Forces Regiment (Airborne): The patch is triangular in shape and features a parachute with a knife overtop of it with a separate Airborne rocker. The Special Forces Regiment (Airborne) is a Special Operations Forces unit of the Philippine Army. The unit is based on and continually trains with its American counterpart, the U.S. Army Special Forces (Green Berets).

The basic combat organization of the Special Forces is the 12-man Special Forces Team. An SF Team will have at least one of each SF MOS present in the team.

The regiment was established in the 1960s by then Captain Fidel V. Ramos PA (INF), primarily trained in both unconventional warfare operations and psychological warfare operations. The regiment has close ties and trains with the US Army Special Forces (Green Berets) The unit encountered manpower issues when SF commandos were sent to Vietnam under the 1 Philippines Civic Action Group, Vietnam (PHILCAG), which forced commanders to train new recruits to refill the ranks.

The SFR was responsible for creating the Civilian Home Defense Forces (CHDF), later re-named as the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU).

The unit changed its name from Special Forces to Home Defense Forces in June 1968 to avoid being disbanded when it was revealed that special forces commandos trained Muslim Filipino soldiers for operations in Sabah. At the time, the Home Defense Forces Group consisted of A Teams (Operational Detachment) and B Teams.

In 1970, the HDFG was placed under Task Force Pasig of the Presidential Security Command.
