Original Rare Australian Issue WWII SMLE M-1944 Machete Bayonet & 1944 dated Scabbard

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. These are extremely rare! We just received this from a top European bayonet collector. Designated the "BAYONET, PARACHUTIST", the design was approved and sealed on APRIL 12TH 1944. The Australian M-1944 Machete Bayonet or Bolo Bayonet was designed for use by Airborne troops on S.M.L.E. #1 Mk 3 Rifles, for use in the Jungle War against the Japanese in South East Asia.

This example is fitted with wooden grips stamped with the Australian SLAZ 43 marking, with a broad leaf shaped blade almost 12" in length, with a large swell at the front. These bayonets were apparently all made at LITHGOW in Australia. Its pommel is marked 4087, the only marking on the bayonet aside from the grips. These never had maker markings on the blade.

Comes complete with it's original Canvas Scabbard which bears the Maker's initials to the rear together with the DATE 1944. Extremely rare, intended for the Jungle Campaign against the Japanese in WW2.

In almost unissued condition and ready to display!
