Original Rare German WWII Late War MG34 / MG42 Ammunition Box Carrying Bag Set with Boxes

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is definitely something that we have not had before! This is a lovely set of late war production carrying bags for MG34 / MG43 ammo cans, designed to let a single soldier easily carry two fully loaded boxes, one under each shoulder. As with late war MP 44 magazine pouches, they were made using late war tan canvas, which had red or pink lines woven into it. These were to indicate the length of the fabric during production. While earlier in the war these lines would probably have been cut out, during the late war period, every last bit of fabric was used.

This set has the red lines on both sides, and feature the correct aluminum drain grommets at the bottom. They retain the straps on top to keep the boxes from coming loose as well. These were made in several different patterns, some of which had the two bags attached with a canvas strap, but these do not appear to be that version. We can see that there used to be some additional fittings on one side of both, possibly for attachment to a belt. The carry straps on this set are wartime but have been re-worked post war with replacement rivets. The buckles are also the original wartime galvanized steel WWII production, all marked L.&F. for Linden & Funke KG, Iserlohn.

Condition is very good considering the amount of service these must have seen, probably in use long after the war in Yugoslavia or elsewhere. There is no major tearing or other damage, just a few holes and other wear from long service.

Included with the bags are two empty MG34 / MG42 ammo boxess, which definitely also show long service. One is an early war Patronenkasten 34 with an aluminum body and a steel lid, maker marked hrh / 41 and bearing a Waffenamt proof. It shows wear but still locks closed correctly. The other ammo box is a later war Patronenkasten 41 in in steel, which still closes, though not firmly due to some bending in the latches.

A lovely set that probably saw much service late in the war and afterwards. Ready to display!
