Original Item: One Only. The Regiment known as Fraser's Highlanders was officially raised in 1775 as the 71st SCOTTISH REGIMENT OF FOOT, specifically for the impending war in the American Colonies. The unit left England in April 1776 and arrived in New York in July 1776, then sailed onto Boston in December to be immediately attacked by American troops in Boston Harbor.

Both Battalions served at the Battle of Long Island in August 1776, followed by the Battle of Fort Washington in November as well as the Battle of Fort Lee in the same month. They fought at the Battle of Brandywine in September 1777 and ventured south for the Capture of Savannah in December 1778, the Siege of Charleston in 1780 followed by the Battle of Camden in the same year. In 1781 The Battle of the Cowpens and the Battle of Guildford Courthouse. It's last action was the Siege of Yorktown in September of 1781, after which the regiment departed for England in 1782.

The HALLMARKED Silver Officer's Cross Belt plate we offer bears the Regimental Motto NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT (No one provokes me with impunity) in a circle around and 2 Bn / 2 Bd for 2nd Battalion, 2nd Brigade. The motto itself was also the Royal Motto of the House of Stuart, Rulers of Scotland, as well as the motto of several other Scottish units. Above is King George's Crown with Scottish Thistle decoration around the lower edges. Somewhat worn but easily discernible, measuring 2 1/2" wide by 3 " tall these were worn on the Officer's white cross belt mounted upon his chest. The rear of the buckle bears Sterling Silver hallmarks.
