Original Rubber Film Prop Winchester 1897 Riot Shotgum From Ellis Props - As Used in The Untouchables (1987)

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This full scale resin replica non-firing Winchester 1897 Riot Gun prop as used in the 1987 Hollywood film The Untouchables. Winchester 1897s were used throughout the film, and can be seen in several scenes from the film.

This example is a hard resin version, not a metal blank firing version, which was used in action sequences where firing was not needed, or as required for stunt use. Resin and Foam rubber weapons are safe for actors, and did not require an armorer to be present on set, as a prop person could issue them out as there were no safety concerns. They could also be used as set decorations in scenes as required. This would save productions from using real firearms in situations where they were not needed as an expensive "close up" gun or blank firing version would not be damaged. Regardless, prop resin and foam rubber guns are rather expensive to produce, as the material they are made from, and even the materials used to make the molds, is extremely expensive. To date, having a foam rubber weapon fabricated can cost up to $1,000 per unit!

This all resin example was acquired from the Ellis Props and Graphics liquidation auction. Ellis was the oldest and the largest Prop House in California until its liquidation auctions in late 1999 and early 2000.
