Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice late Cold War / Soviet Collapse era (1990 dated) Flag of the Soviet Union, correctly known as the "State Flag of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics" (Russian: Госуда́рственный флаг Сою́за Сове́тских Социалисти́ческих Респу́блик). More commonly known as the Soviet flag (Russian: Сове́тский фла), this was the official national flag of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR / CCCP) from 1922 to 1991. The flag's design and symbolism are derived from several sources, but emerged during the Russian Revolution. The flag is also an international symbol of the communist movement as a whole. The nicknames for the flag were The Hammer and Sickle and The Red Banner.
This wonderful measures 72 x 33 inches, the perfect size for a Cold War Wall display. It looks to be made of wool or possibly canvas, and is of multi-piece construction, with a canvas header with two intact lanyard loops. The header is marked with several inspection stamps and numbers, some of which are not clear. However, the C.C.C.P. stamp and date 1990г are clearly visible (г is short for год / year).
The flag is in very good condition, with a few small holes that look to be moth nips. The colors are still quite vibrant.
A lovely flag, right from around the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union, ready to display!
