Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Now this is an incredible, attributed uniform set for Soviet Armored Troops “Hero of the Soviet Union” General Poluboyarov Pavel Pavlovich. The uniform set itself is in wonderful condition and displays quite well, especially with the museum sign courtesy of the A.A.F. Tank Museum!
The uniform came to us from the American Armoured Foundation, Inc. Tank and Ordnance Memorial Museum. The AAF Tank Museum was a living memorial dedicated to the Tank and Cavalry soldiers of the world. Before 1981 some of the artifacts that make up the AAF Tank Museum was a private collection belonging to Mr. William Gasser. Mr. Gasser felt that his collection would be beneficial in educating present and future generations to the sacrifices made and the technologies gained during war. Therefore, in 1981 the AAF Tank Museum was established as a non-profit charitable organization, and Mr. Gasser's donated his private collection to the Tank Museum. Mr. Gasser is still active as Volunteer Director and Curator of the Tank Museum and his knowledge of military history has been a great asset to the museum. Unfortunately after 20 years of operation it had to close its doors, which is when this uniform was acquired.
Pavel Pavlovich Poluboyarov participated in the Civil War, military engagements with Japanese troops on the river Khalkhyn Gol (1939) and World War II. In 1940, he became deputy commander-in-chief of the 17th army and the head of the armored division of the Leningrad and Baltic special military district. Pavel Pavlovich was a commander of the 17th tank corps, later the 4th guard's tank corps (the first – Ukrainian Front). In 1943, at the head of his corps, he played an active role in the Voronezh battle and the battles for the village and the railway station Kantemirovka, the Stalingrad and Kursk battles. He distinguished himself in the Berlin and Prague operations and during the conquesting of Dresden (Germany). From 1954 to 1969, he was an office commander of the tank forces of the Soviet Army. He also served in the group of inspector generals of the USSR Ministry of Defense.
The uniform grouping consists of the following items:
- Gymnastyorka Tunic With Trousers: . This is a fantastic uniform set that was once worn by General Poluboyarov Pavel Pavlovich in the Red Army during WWII. The set consists of a Gymnastyorka and pair of trousers, both offered in wonderful service used condition.
Gymnastyorka was a Russian military smock comprising a pullover-style garment with a standing collar having double button closure. Additionally, one or two upper chest pockets, with or without flaps, may have been worn. It had provision for shoulder boards and sometimes reinforced elbows and cuffs. The Tsarist version had the standing collar while the M35 version had a stand-and-fall collar which was replaced with the standing collar in the M43 version. The Soviet Military M35 version usually had hidden buttons. A double breasted version (kitel) for officers of all ranks existed during the Tsarist period.
The condition is quite nice with all buttons present on the tunic with a few scattered areas of holes. This is a field worn uniform and it does show signs of actual field use and is presented without any extensive damage.
- M1934 Leather Jacket for Armored Troops With Correct Rank Insignia: Throughout WWII Soviet Tankers uniforms varied a fair amount, some were issued with overalls in shades of Blue, Black and Khaki as well as various shades and materials of Tanker jackets were produced, toward the end of the war many tankers just wore the standard M43 Gimnasterka with their tanker helmets. These specific uniforms are the main versions of the 'Tanker Jacket' produced with pre-1943 insignia.
The M1934 Leather Jacket for Armored Troops, the difference between the M34 and M29 is buttons on the bottom pockets were removed, the entire two breast pockets were also removed and the cuff fasteners were removed.
The condition is quite nice and solid but does show faithful signs of wear without extensive damage. All buttons are present and still retains much of their original black paint.
- Sam Browne Belt With Shoulder Strap and Tokarev TT-33 Pistol Holster: This is a wonderful belt that even retains the shoulder support strap and a beautiful TT-33 pistol holster! The condition is quite nice and solid with great signs of service use. The buckle is quite nice as well with great patination and minor verdigris.
- M1924 Peaked Visor: This is a fantastic example of a service used Soviet Union Red Army issue, field worn Model 1924 peaked visor. The visor is in excellent condition and still retains a great red enameled Hammer and Sickle cap device on the front.
- Tanker Goggles: These are just fantastic and actually ties the display together quite nicely. The goggles themselves are rather solid with great glass panels that are undamaged or scuffed. The only “real” issue is that the strap has lost its elasticity.
When it comes to historically incredible uniforms, this takes the cake! A uniform of this caliber that is able to be researched is very difficult to come by, so you do not want to miss out on this opportunity.
Comes more than ready for further research and display.
