Original Soviet WWII to Cold War Era Medal and Insignia Grouping With Documents - 12 Items

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Group of 12 Available. Awards and decorations of the Soviet Union are decorations from the former Soviet Union that recognised achievements and personal accomplishments, both military and civilian. Some of the awards, decorations, and orders were discontinued after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, while others are still issued by the Russian Federation as of 2021. Many of the awards were simply reworked in the Russian Federation, such as the transition of Hero of the Soviet Union to Hero of the Russian Federation, and Hero of Socialist Labor to Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation. A wide range of Soviet awards and decorations cover the extensive and diverse period of history from 1917 to 1991.

This lovely grouping consists of the following items:

- Medal "For the Liberation of Belgrade" With Award Document: The Medal "For the Liberation of Belgrade" was awarded to soldiers of the Red Army, Navy, and troops of the NKVD, direct participants of the heroic assault and liberation of the city of Belgrade as well as to the organizers and leaders of combat operations in the capture of this city.

Award of the medal was made on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the basis of documents attesting to actual participation in the liberation of Belgrade. Serving military personnel received the medal from their unit commander, retirees from military service received the medal from a regional, municipal or district military commissioner in the recipient's community.

The Medal "For the Liberation of Belgrade" was worn on the left side of the chest and in the presence of other awards of the USSR, was located immediately after the Medal "For the Capture of Berlin". If worn in the presence of Orders or medals of the Russian Federation, the latter have precedence.

The Medal "For the Liberation of Belgrade" was a 32mm in diameter circular brass medal with a raised rim on the obverse. On its obverse along the entire medal circumference, a laurel wreath split only at the top by a small five pointed star, within the wreath, along its upper inner circumference, the relief inscription "FOR THE LIBERATION" (Russian: «ЗА ОСВОБОЖДЕНИЕ»), at lower center just above the wreath, the horizontal relief inscription " OF BELGRADE" (Russian: «БЕЛГРАДА»). On the reverse at the top, a relief plain five pointed star over the relief date in three rows "20 OCTOBER 1944" (Russian: «20 ОКТЯБРЯ 1944»).

The Medal "For the Liberation of Belgrade" was secured by a ring through the medal suspension loop to a standard Soviet pentagonal mount covered by a 24mm wide green silk moiré ribbon with 8mm wide black central stripe.

- Medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945" With Award Document: The Medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945" was awarded to all military and civilian personnel of the Red Army, of the Navy and of the troops of the NKVD who were directly involved on the different fronts of World War II and ensured victory through their work in the various military districts; to all military and civilian personnel who served during the Great Patriotic War in the ranks of the Red Army, of the Navy or of the troops of the NKVD, but who were released from military service due to injury or illness, as well as those transferred by decision of the state or Party organizations to tasks outside of the armed forces.

Award of the medal was made on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the basis of documents attesting to actual participation in the Great Patriotic War issued by unit commanders, the chiefs of military medical establishments or the executive committees of regional or city Soviets. Serving military personnel received the medal from their unit commander, retirees from military service received the medal from a regional, municipal or district military commissioner in the recipient's community.
The Medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945" was worn on the left side of the chest and in the presence of other awards of the USSR, was located immediately after the Medal "For the Defense of the Soviet Transarctic". If worn in the presence of Orders or medals of the Russian Federation, the latter have precedence.

The Medal was a 32mm in diameter circular brass medal with a raised rim on both sides. On its obverse, the left profile bust of Joseph Stalin in the uniform of a Marshal of the Soviet Union, along the upper circumference of the medal, the relief inscription "OUR CAUSE IS RIGHTEOUS" (Russian: НАШЕ ДЕЛО ПРАВОЕ; NASHE DELO PRAVOE), along the lower circumference of the medal, the relief inscription "WE ARE VICTORIOUS" (Russian: МЫ ПОБЕДИЛИ; MI POBEDILI). On the reverse, at the bottom, a small five pointed star, along the medal circumference, the relief inscription "FOR VICTORY OVER GERMANY" (Russian: «ЗА ПОБЕДУ НАД ГЕРМАНИЕЙ»; «ZA POBEDU NAD GERMANIEY»), in the center, the relief inscription on three rows "IN THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR OF 1941–45" (Russian: «В ВЕЛИКОЙ ОТЕЧЕСТВЕННОЙ ВОЙНЕ 1941—1945 ГГ.»; «V VELIKOY OTECHESTVENNOY VOYNE 1941-1945 GG.»).

The Medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945" was secured by a ring through the medal suspension loop to a standard Soviet pentagonal mount covered by a 24mm wide silk moiré Ribbon of St. George.

- Jubilee Medal "60 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR": The Jubilee Medal "60 Years of the Armed Forces of the USSR" was awarded to officers, warrant officers, sergeants, petty officers, sailors and soldiers, enlisted in the service and on active duty on February 23, 1978 in the Soviet Army, Navy, in the troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the armed forces of organs of the State Security, in the Council of Ministers of the USSR; to former Red Guards, soldiers who took part in the fighting to protect the Soviet homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR, to partisans of the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945; persons discharged from active military service in the reserve or retired, who served in the Soviet Army, Navy, in the troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the armed forces and organs of the State Security Council of Ministers of the USSR for 20 years or more or that were awarded during their active duty, military orders of the USSR or the medals "For courage", Ushakov, "For Military Merit", "For Distinction in Protection of State Border of the USSR", Nakhimov, "For Distinction in Military Service”.

The medal was awarded on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR by commanders of military units, agencies and institutions. For retirees, by republican, territorial, regional, district, municipal and district military commissariats. Each medal came with an attestation of award, this attestation came in the form of a small 8 cm by 11 cm cardboard booklet bearing the award's name, the recipient's particulars and an official stamp and signature on the inside.

The Jubilee Medal was a 32mm in diameter brass circular medal with a raised rim on both sides. On its obverse, in the background at left, three rockets pointing skyward toward the upper right, at the upper right, two military jets flying level in formation towards the right, in the forefront at the lower left, the relief image of a helmeted Soviet soldier facing right holding a rifle, to his right on the horizon, the relief image of a surfaced submarine at sea, just above the submarine, at the right, the superimposed dates "1918" and "1978". On the reverse, along the entire circumference of the medal, the circular relief inscription: "Sixty Years" and "Armed Forces of the USSR" (Russian: «Шестьдесят лет» и «Вооружённых Сил СССР»), separated by two small relief five pointed stars. In the center, a five-pointed star with a pebbled finish superimposed on a crossed rifle and saber, in the star, a hammer and a plow.

The medal was secured to a standard Soviet pentagonal mount by a ring through the medal suspension loop. The mount was covered by a 24mm wide gray silk moiré ribbon with 5mm red edge stripes and a central 1mm yellow stripe.

- Medal "For the Liberation of Warsaw": The Medal "For the Liberation of Warsaw" was "awarded to soldiers of the Red Army, Navy, and troops of the NKVD, direct participants of the heroic assault and liberation of the city of Warsaw as well as to the organizers and leaders of combat operations in the capture of this city".

Award of the medal was made on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the basis of documents attesting to actual participation in the liberation of Warsaw. Serving military personnel received the medal from their unit commander, retirees from military service received the medal from a regional, municipal or district military commissioner in the recipient's community.

The Medal "For the Liberation of Warsaw" was worn on the left side of the chest and in the presence of other awards of the USSR, was located immediately after the Medal "For the Liberation of Belgrade". If worn in the presence of Orders or medals of the Russian Federation, the latter have precedence.

The Medal was a 32mm in diameter circular brass medal with a raised rim on the obverse. On its obverse along the upper half of the medal's circumference, the relief inscription "FOR THE LIBERATION OF" (Russian: «ЗА ОСВОБОЖДЕНИЕ»), at the bottom, a relief five pointed star radiating divergent rays upwards, superimposed over the rays, a ribbon bearing the relief inscription "WARSAW" (Russian: «ВАРШАВЫ»). On the reverse at the top, a relief plain five pointed star over the relief date in three rows "17 JANUARY 1945" (Russian: «17 ЯНВАРЯ 1945»).

The Medal was secured by a ring through the medal suspension loop to a standard Soviet pentagonal mount covered by a 24mm wide blue silk moiré ribbon with 2mm yellow edge stripes and a 6mm wide central red stripe.

- Medal "Veteran of Labor": The Medal "Veteran of Labor" was awarded to workers for many years of hard work in the national economy, sciences, culture, education, healthcare, government agencies and public organizations. The medal was awarded to workers, farmers and employees in recognition of their lifelong labor on reaching the seniority required for a long-service pension or retirement age. Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR number 5822-IX of June 8, 1977 added the rank and file and the officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as potential recipients under the same award criteria as the laborers mentioned in the August 12, 1983 decree. Recommendations for the award were made jointly by administrators of Party and trade union organizations, enterprises, institutions and organizations based on nominations from working groups or workforce councils. The list of potential recipients was then forwarded to municipal, district, or Party and government bodies for final approval. In the case of members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the list of nominations was forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs for final approval.

Award ceremonies of the Medal "Veteran of Labor" usually took place in the work place of the recipients and were made on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Union or of Autonomous Republics, the executive committees of regional and provincial Soviets, Moscow Soviet, Leningrad Soviet, or of the city Soviets of People's Deputies of the capitals of Soviet republics.

The Medal was worn on the left side of the chest and in the presence of other medals of the USSR, immediately after the Medal "For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945". If worn in the presence of awards of the Russian Federation, the latter have precedence.

The Medal was designed by artist SA Pomansky. It was a 34 mm in diameter circular medal struck from tombac and then silver-plated and oxidized. The obverse of the medal bears the relief image of the hammer and sickle over the inscription "USSR" (Russian: «СССР») with diverging rays, a laurel branch spans the width of the obverse from right to left passing under the sickle's handle in an upward curve, along the lower and right circumference, a ribbon bearing the relief inscription "VETERAN OF LABOR" (Russian: «ВЕТЕРАН ТРУДА»). The otherwise plain reverse bears the inscription on four lines "FOR LONG DILIGENT WORK" (Russian: «ЗА ДОЛГОЛЕТНИЙ ДОБРОСОВЕСТНЫЙ ТРУД»).

The Medal was secured by a ring through the medal suspension loop to a standard Soviet pentagonal mount covered by a 24mm wide overlapping silk moiré ribbon with 1 mm wide white edge stripes and coloured from left to right by a 7 mm wide dark gray stripe, an 8 mm wide light gray stripe, and three 2 mm wide red stripes separated by two 0.5 mm wide white stripes.

- x2 Soviet Guards Badges: These are two lovely badges, one being on a cardboard reinforced green felt tab. Both are in lovely condition with screwbacks, all enamel and finish retained and without damage. Guards units are elite units and formations in the armed forces of the former Soviet Union, Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine. These units were awarded Guards status after distinguishing themselves in service, and are considered to have elite status.

- x2 Soviet Tank Driver Class Badges: The badges are for 1st and 2nd class and are offered in excellent condition, free of damage.

- Soviet Red Enamel Star Cap Badge: The star is in lovely worn condition with the only issue being a small corner of the red enamel is missing.
