Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a rare, near mint, unissued condition Swedish M1914 Bayonet produced for M1894/14 6.5mm Mauser Carbines. The Bayonets were also issued To Stockholm Palace Guards for attachment to their M1945 Carl Gustav Sub Machine Guns (see pages 255-256 & Page 263 of The Bayonet Book By Watts & White).
The bayonet measures 18 1/4" overall, with a 13" blade with medial ridge which is double edged for the last 5" to the tip. The ricasso is crisply marked by the manufacturer EJEAB combined with Crown and Anchor which is the maker's mark of Eskilstuna Jernmanufactur AB (Eskilstuna Iron Manufacturing, Inc.). Blade is in unissued condition except for runner marks.
The cross guard with muzzle ring and curved pommel with spring catch are in similar excellent condition. The wood grips are superb and secured by the correct screws. The grip is fitted with the correct scabbard retaining catch with knurled top square button. The odd hilt design gives away that this is a bayonet designed for a rifle that wasn't originally designed to mount a bayonet. In 1914, M1894 Carbines were altered by the addition of a nose cap that incorporated a bayonet mount. The hilt incorporates a locking device to secure the bayonet to the scabbard.
The bayonet is complete with its flat steel scabbard with frog stud and tear drop end. The body of the scabbard is dent free, though years of storage have left some light scuffs The tear drop end is stamped with a 'Crown' mark. There are not any regimental marks, indicating that this bayonet was never issued.
The scabbard is held in a very nice Swedish leather parade frog, as would have been used by the palace guards. Frog is in great shape, and has the Swedish Triple Crown proof stamped into the leather.
A great unissued example, ready to add to your collection!
