Item Description
Original item: Only One available. This is a textbook example of a Swiss Model 1899 Officer's sword, made domestically at the Swiss weapons factory in Neuhausen. The sword comes complete with its scabbard. Unlike other examples we have had before, this is not a nickel plated dress sword, but a real Government issued example for real service. The blade, handle, and scabbard are all bright steel, showing wear from use and service.
The grip is wire wrapped sharkskin shagreen, and in form the sword is quite similar to other officer's swords used around the world at the time. The grip has four wire wrapping, with the center pair being twisted. The steel handguard is symmetrical, and somewhat narrower than we see on those from other countries, and can have a leather finger loop on the interior. It is perforated and decorated with floral designs showing the Swiss "Geneva Cross" in the middle of the guard. The scabbard is fairly standard, with a single hanger ring and the rectangular loop on the rear for a belt hook.

The name simply translates to "Weapons Factory Neuhausen," which was one of the primary edged weapon suppliers in the first half of the 20th century. Below this is a Swiss "Geneva" cross proof mark in a circle, while the opposite ricasso is marked with serial number 14049.
Condition is very good, showing the usual wear and tear from service, and it now shows a lovely polished steel look overall. The blade is in very good shape, and shows denting and bending on the edge, but no major chips or nicks. The scabbard is still mostly straight, showing just a bit of waviness, and the hanger loop is still present.
