Item Description
Original Item: One Only. Although the Swiss were neutral in WWI (and WWII), they kept up with military development. As both the Allies and the Central Powers adopted steel headgear in 1916, so did the Swiss (the M18). This helmet is totally original and comes with German style liner, which the Swiss copied, and come complete with an adjustable brown leather chinstrap. The M18 was issued through out the 20s and 30s, and in 1940 was updated with a 3/4 ring liner, which is what this model features. Then in 1943 all M18 and M40 helmets were withdrawn to have a new sawdust mixed matte black paint applied over the original paint, which is why this version is called the M18/43.
This example is in great shape, with a solid liner that is still supple, and intact functional chin strap. The interior and exterior paint is excellent, with littler wear or damage, except on the rim, which is common. The inside is marked with Serial Numer A. / 866365, and also has some labels that were applied during import and by the collector that it was purchased from.
A really great example of this interesting helmet, ready to display!
Also of major note; it is true that this model helmet was the one on which the design of Darth Vader's helmet in the "Star Wars" films was based upon. These have become quite hard to find today, an early important step in helmet development especially with the "Star Wars" connection.
