Item Description
Original Items: Only One Lot of 2 Available. This is a fantastic pair of a rather important edged weapon in the toolbox of the WWII soldier. One of the most famous knife types in the world, the machete, which was quite capable of cutting its way through the dense jungles of Burma and many other jungle battlefields during WWII. Its lengthy blade could also deliver a devastating blow to an enemy when the need arose.
The Machetes In This Lot:
- U.S. 23” Machete by True Temper (American Fork & Hoe) in Canvas Scabbard by General Shoe Corp. - Both Dated 1942: Most of the early tools associated with the name TRUE TEMPER can be described as hand tools with wood handles. They were non-motorized and rarely included simple mechanisms. Over 60% of the TRUE TEMPER product line was associated with agriculture, gardening and other forms of outdoor work. Examples of such tools are spades, shovels, forks, hoes, rakes, striking tools (axes, picks, mauls), forged bars and machetes like this example here. This full sized machete features a 19” blade with a lovely black plastic handle. The machete does show signs of being used and sharpened multiple times, which is not uncommon to see because these machetes, although old, are still being used to this day.
- British Machete By Martindale With Canvas Scabbard: Ralph Martindale & Company Limited was first registered in England in 1874. The Chillington Tool Company Limited was registered in England in 1892, and was acquired by Ralph Martindale & Company Limited in 1998. Martindale and Chillington are collectively referred to as the Martindale Group.
The Martindale Group has over 140 years experience in producing and marketing handtools that are used in agriculture, hardware, construction, and horticulture. Martindale and Chillington “Crocodile” brand tools have been, and still are, recognized throughout the world as the benchmark for quality by generations of farmers and general users.
This full sized machete features a 17 ½” blade with a lovely black plastic handle. The machete does show signs of being used and sharpened multiple times, which is not uncommon to see because these machetes, although old, are still being used to this day.
Both would be welcomed into any WWII collection. Comes more than ready for further research and display.
