Original Item: Only One Available. The colt "Pocket Percussion" Model 1849 revolvers in .31cal are essentially scaled down versions of the larger Navy Model 1851 in .36cal, and were developed concurrently. The serial Number 137119 can be found on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, cylinder, and grip frame. The barrel axis pin, loading rammer, and barrel wedge all have a shortened version of this number, making this a very nice "ALL MATCHING" revolver, totally un-messed with, and it's definitely a great one!
The serial number indicates indicates the year of manufacture as 1857, just before the U.S. Civil War, so it almost certainly saw service during the conflict. Five shot percussion, .31 caliber with a long 6" barrel, in nice tight condition with nice aged finish on the steel, and most of the original plating on the brass components. This is something we rarely see, as the plating is usually completely gone. There is also a good amount of the original cylinder "Stagecoach Holdup Scene" engraving visible, along with a partial COLT'S PATENT over the serial number marking. Unfortunately some light pitting has degraded the markings a bit.
The Colt early two line address is still well marked in two lines across the top of the octagonal barrel -

There is also a faded COLTS PATENT marking correctly on the left side of the frame under the cylinder.
The walnut grips are in very good shape, with a lovely color and the expected patina of age. They still have most of the original "Piano Varnish" finish that was applied to these at the factory. The revolver functions correctly, with good indexing and a tight cylinder lockup. We have not noticed any of the usual finicky behavior revolvers of this age can have. The bore shows worn lands and grooves, with a partly bright finish showing oxidation and wear.
This is a very nice '49 Pocket dating from just before the Civil War, a wonderful acquisition for any collection.
