Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. The colt "Pocket Percussion" Model 1849 revolvers in .31cal are essentially scaled down versions of the larger Navy Model 1851 in .36cal, and were developed concurrently. This fine cased example bears serial number 275627 on all major parts except for the cylinder, which has had the serial number worn away. This indicates the year of manufacture as 1865, meaning this Colt revolver was made right at the end of the U.S. Civil War, or shortly after.
It is in splendid condition but has been refinished leaving few original markings visible except the .31 CAL stamped into the brass trigger guard frame on the left side. The revolver functions perfectly and presents well.
The wood case is of the correct style but is a later edition, and measures 15" x 6" x 2 1/2". It is lined in maroon colored baize fabric and has compartments for lead bullets of which there are a few. The usual powder flask and bullet are both unfortunately missing. The is a tin of percussion caps with some original caps, which still retains 50% of it's original label. There here is also an original horn handled gun screwdriver made by the English gun maker, W. HAWKSLEY, which is quite nice. Finally, there a spare Colt M-1849 Cylinder, which has been drilled through presumably a start on converting the revolver to a cartridge weapon but never completed. It may possibly work for rimfire cartridges though.
An interesting set, ready to display!
