Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Good condition Civil War leather cartridge box. Cleanly embossed US on outer flap. The outer surfaces of the box exhibit expected wear and crazing from age and use. The box still has the closure tab and brass finial at the bottom. Both roller buckles are present on the bottom of the box. The reverse of the box has the entire belt and shoulder strap loops still intact. The carry strap is also present but a portion of it has torn away. These ammunition pouches were designed so the box could have been worn on the soldier’s belt or on a sling, whichever the soldier preferred. The inner flap is in fine shape and has both ears. Inside the innermost compartment would normally sit tins that held the cartridges in place. The tins are absent.
