Original U.S. Civil War Model 1864 Type II .58 Cal. Cartridge Box by S. H. Young with Matched Tin Inserts

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice "privately purchased" example of a U.S. Civil war black leather flap holster, designed to fit the larger percussion revolvers of the day. This included the Colt Army and Navy revolvers, the Remington Army, and several others. The holster is made from top grade leather with all of its original stitching still intact and tight. It was designed to be worn "Butt Forward" on the right hip for use with the left hand, the right hand being reserved for the Officer's Sword. The design is just about identical to the official U.S. Army issue, except there is no U S stamped on the front.

The flap has a securing strap which hooks onto the brass stud on the front of the holster. We tested an 1860 Army and an 1851 Navy, and they both fit perfectly. A true Civil War Military style holster of this 1860 period is very hard to find in remarkably good, heavily used condition. It does have cracking in the finish, and there is a repaired tear on the closure flap, but the typical Civil War holsters we see are usually far worse. This still has a very nice shape, without the typical crushing usually seen on these. It would be the perfect accessory for any suitable Civil War percussion revolver.
