Original Item: Only One Set Available. This is a set of six original Civil War .31cal percussion cartridges, still in their original SEALED packaging. With 6 cartridges, this would fully load the cylinders of virtually all .31cal percussion revolvers of the time made by Colt, Whitney, Manhattan, and others. This would in fact often leave one cartridge left over, as most pistols followed the Colt M1849 by having 5 chamber cylinders. However, due to improved steel quality, in 1861 Colt updated the Model 1849 Pocket revolver with a stronger 6 chamber cylinder, and started making six round cartridge packages to match.
The "cartridges" inside are wrapped in paper and allow the powder and bullet to be placed as a single unit inside the cylinder chamber. This was significantly faster than having to pour powder from a measuring flask. These would eventually evolve into the brass cartridges used today.

Any attempt at restoring an antique gun to be operational is strongly discouraged and is done so at the risk of the customer.
