Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of the first type of gas mask that the United States fielded in WWII. The M1 Design had first come about in 1921 as an improvement of the M1919 gas mask, developed at the end of WWI. It then went through several improvements, with the M1A2 being introduced in 1934, and remaining the standard U.S. Gas mask into the early years of WWII. This example has the correct U.S. / U marking on the forehead, indicating the "Universal" size of the M1A2.
The mask is in good condition, though as with any WWII Rubber product, it has degraded in areas, as the rubber has dried out and deteriorated. The securing harness elastic is broken, and some of the internal components are also cracked. The rubber "bladder" below the valve is also missing, most likely having crumbled to pieces long ago. The hose is however still supple, and still connected to the M1XA1 filter, which has the correct markings, and is in good condition.
The mask and filter come with the correct MIVA1 carry bag, which is the last model used for this gas mask. The case is in great shape, and has all of the correct markings and straps intact. Both the mask and the case have a handwritten 1973.7.19 marking on them, probably the date they were last examined.
A nice set, ready to display!
