Original U.S. Indian Wars Early Issue “Spliced” Allin Conversion Sling Made from Civil War Slings - M1868 Trapdoor Springfield

Regular price $195.00

Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a really stellar piece of kit with great history. When the M1868 Trapdoor Springfield rifle was developed, they were generally issued with longer leather slings, often made from two Civil War rifle-musket slings sewn together. The same was done with the Allin-Conversion rifles, which were M1861 rifles converted to use the breech loading “Trapdoor” mechanism, designed by Master Armorer Erskine S. Allin of the Springfield Armory.

This is one of the original slings which were made from two Civil War slings sewn together, and the machine-stitching is still visible, although the stitching is very worn and weakened, with some already gone. There is some serious wear to the leather in places, but the keeper is still present. A great example which could be used on an Allin-Conversion or any Trapdoor Springfield.
