Original U.S. Korean War Era Army M1952 Mountain Backpack - Rucksack with Frame

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition U.S. Army M1952 Mountain Backpack - Rucksack with a metal frame, FSN 8465-261-6931, as used during the Korean War Era and into the 1960s. The design, Spec. MIL-R-1619, was based heavily on the M1942 backpack designed by the Jeffersonville Quartermaster Depot, and can be looked at as a continuation of that design. As before, the pack was designed to be used by mountain troops, as the standard combat rigging haversacks were unfortunately insufficient for carrying the amount of gear needed when there were no vehicles to carry supplies.

The metal frame itself measures about 18" wide x 21" tall x 6" deep, so once fully loaded this was a large pack indeed. This pack still has the complete military manufacture markings on the inside of the top flap, which read:

RUCKSACK, M1952, TYPE I
DSA 1-2384-63-E
8465-261-6931
10

This pack is in very good condition, and as far as we can tell is complete and functional. There is some light wear and discoloration in the OD Green Canvas, but nothing major. The leather straps and fittings do show some age and cracking, which is to be expected.

This is a great chance to pick up a very nice example of this U.S. Army mountain backpack. Ready to display!
