Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a genuine Korean War issue "High Pressure" helmet liner by Westinghouse. It may have seen service during the conflict, and then looks to have been used for training. Helmet liners such as these were often worn during training, as the steel helmets were not required, an could be heavy and cumbersome at times.
The left side of the helmet has the divisional insignia of the 78th Infantry Division "Lightning", which saw service during WWII, and then became a training division during the post war years. There looks to have been a second 78th Division insignia on the right side, which was painted over, as was the entire outside of the liner.
The liner is correct "high pressure" Korean War Era issue and stamped with a W over mold number 103, for manufacture by the the Westinghouse Electric Co of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. These "high pressure" manufactured M-1 helmet liner are identified by an embossed "W" in the crown (which is still Westinghouse's logo to this day). Westinghouse was the largest M-1 helmet liner producer during WWII. With the outbreak of the Korean conflict, they resumed making helmet liners, which were quite similar to the WWII configuration.
The main differences were a switch to darker OD Green #7 straps, which were a more standard weave, not the HBT used during WWII. Also, the frontal eyelet was removed, though this helmet liner has had a hole made in that area, probably to attach a rank insignia, now removed. Condition of the interior is very good, with solid straps and a sweatband showing moderate wear. All of the components are present except for the liner chin strap, which is almost always missing.
