Item Description
Original Item: Only One Set of Two available. This is a very nice Korean War Era U.S. TA-43/PT Field Telephone Set, complete in its original CY-1277A/PT carry case with a 1950 dated carry strap. This equipment has not been tested by IMA but we were told that they are functional. However, we will not guarantee functionality. This unit was sold as surplus, and does not appear to have been used much at all.
The unit still has the original data plates, which reads:
SIGNAL CORPS U. S. ARMY
TELEPHONE SET TA-43/PT
SERIAL NO. 53144 ORDER NO. 26573-PH-52
Western Electric Company
INCORPORATED
Both the case and the phone are also marked M.F.P., and have the usual markings we see on Signal Corps material. The contract number indicates 1952, so this was made for the Korean war era, and probably continued in service into the later 1950s. At that point, it was superseded by the TA-312/PT, which had several features that the TA-43/PT did not.
As stated before, this example really is in nice shape. All the knobs and buttons are intact and seem to work, and the side cranks turn smoothly. The case is in very good lightly used condition, with a carry strap and working zipper.
Ready to display!
The analog, 2-wire, battery operated TA-43/PT replaced and will interoperate with the World War II and Korean War EE-8 field phones. Towards the end of the 1950s it was replaced with the similar TA-312. The rugged and reliable TA-312 was used from the 1950s through the 1980s before being superceded by the TA-838 analog field phone. TA-312's continue in use throughout the U.S. forces as well as many allied countries. Many call these the "Cadillac of Field Phones." These were designed to have a dry operating range of over 20 miles when paired with U.S. G.I. Telephone Cable.
