Original Set. One-of-a-Kind. This is an unbelievably scarce & fragile set of field gear from the period of the Legion of the United States, which lasted from 1792 until 1796. The Legion of the United States was a reorganization and extension of the United States Army from 1792 to 1796 under the command of Major General Anthony Wayne. It represented a political shift in the new United States, which had recently adopted the United States Constitution. The new Congressional and Executive branches authorized a standing army composed of professional soldiers rather than relying on state militias.

The set is comprised of a “Belly Box”, a box with 24 cylindrical tins meant for musket balls. These would be used with a powder horn to utilize a flintlock musket or pistol. The 24 tins are well retained and the leather is in astounding shape for being 220 years old. The belly box has a gorgeous Federal Eagle box plate on the front, which has unfortunately come off of the box, but as the flap sits at an angle, the plate can be easily displayed on the box. The securing strap on the box is also intact but very cracked. The box is integrated into the belt, which is complete and still retains its leather socket bayonet scabbard. The scabbard shows some heaving cracking and crazing but is still intact. The belt set is even complete with its original cross strap. 

The leather of this extremely scarce set is very fragile, so extreme care must be taken in handling it. This set is NOT meant to be set up on a mannequin, as this will exacerbate the deterioration of the leather. Please look into proper care and maintenance of 200+ year old leather. There is a small tear in the belt behind the cartridge box but it is in great shape overall. As previously stated, the Federal Eagle plate has already disconnected from the box, but it will display fine sitting on the box with the flap at an angle.
