Item Description
Original Item: One Only. Much like our European cousins in the 1880s, the U.S. Army started to adopted spiked pith helmets, often in white, with all brass mounts and occasionally plumes. These saw active service in the Spanish American War of 1898 especially in the tropical climate in Cuba.
Complete with leather sweat band, the helmet boasts a spike to its top mount and retails its original gloss white leather chin strap. The brass helmet plate measures 2 1/2" X 2 1/2", and states NATIONAL GUARD around the numeral 8 on a black background.
In basically very nice condition there is some minor distress to the cotton lining covering the cork substructure under the neck flap. Ready to display.
