Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful condition Reissue U.S. Army M4 Carbine bayonet fighting knife with original M8A1 scabbard. It is nicely marked U.S. M4 / CAMILLUS on the blade side of the cross guard. The bayonet is in New Old Stock condition, with only age and storage related wear. This includes some rust around the crossguard, and the grip has also shrunk slightly.
These were reissued by the one of the original manufacturers, Camillus, in the 1990s, made to the Korean War specifications. These included a mildew resistant grip without plastic spacers, and no final "burnishing" of the grip. The main difference between the military and commercial issue is the bottom of the pommel. For WWII and Korean war production, Camillus used a tang peening process that resulted in a "starburst" pattern. The 1990s production does not have this, so this one is definitely from that production run.
The blade still has the factory edge, with a bit of light oxidation and staining, and the tip of the blade is still needle sharp. Blade finish is near 100%, with just some runner wear from the scabbard.
The Grip and pommel are all tight to the blade, though due to the grip shrinking, the cross guard is loose. The stacked leather does not show any wear, just a bit of drying out from decades of storage. The pommel locking mechanism is fully functional and moves easily. Comes complete with an OD green scabbard marked U.S. M8A1 / B.M. Co, offered in very good condition. This design features a a thermoplastic impregnated cotton fabric body, metal throat, and canvas frog and securing strap. It was manufactured by Beckwith Mfg Co. a division of Victory Plastics, whose stylized V P logo is on the back of the scabbard body. The canvas is in good shape, as are the metal fittings and snap, with expected oxidation from age and storage. Scabbard body is complete, and does not have a metal tip, correct for the early pattern M8A1 scabbard. The scabbard body is great, with no cracks or chips, and a great intact finish.
