Item Description

Original Items: Only One Set Available. Now this is a fantastic set of Mexican-American War era accouterments as used by a member of the 7th New York State Militia. Both of the belts are named to the same soldier and appears to read as E. SCHEITLIN / COMPANY H / 7th REGIMENT. We have not been able to locate any information regarding this individual, making this a fantastic research opportunity.

The 7th Regiment of the New York Militia, aka the "Silk Stocking" regiment, was an infantry regiment in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Also known as the "Blue-Bloods" due to the disproportionate number of its members who were part of New York City's social elite, the 7th Militia was a pre-war New York Militia unit that was mustered into federal service for the Civil War.

The regiment was frequently ordered to hold itself ready for service, and did active service for the United States, the state and New York City, as follows:

United States service from 15 September to 15 December 1812 from 2 September to 2 December 1814 in support of state or municipal authority:

-service in the War of the Rebellion.

Following the War of 1812, 1808 pattern accouterments continued in use with only minor
alterations such as the reintroduction of buff leather. In 1828 an improved 1808 cartridge
box with inner flap and ears was introduced to be used with the flintlock musket. This cartridge box is in impeccable condition for being almost 200 years old! The stitching is still very solid and retains both buckles on the bottom with the belt loops on the reverse side. The front flap has a lovely 7th “NY” stylized badge. The cartridge box still retains its solid white buff leather sling.

The bayonet carriage is in similar fantastic condition as the cartridge box and sling. Just like the sling on the cartridge box, it is also made of white buff leather and is presented without any extensive damage with solid stitching.

It does not get any better than this pair right here! For being almost 200 years old and in this condition is quite a rarity.

Comes more than ready for further research and display.
