Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This a very nice example of an early 20th century West Point cadet's parade shako with the original plume (often missing or replaced). The front brass badge has a folded banner across the top around a Federal Eagle, which reads: DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY, WEST POINT, MDCCCII, USMA. The roman numeral date stands for 1802, the year the Academy commenced operations on July 4th.
Leather liner reads THE CADET STORE / WEST POINT/ N.Y. in a diamond shaped logo. West Point, New York is the home of the United States Military Academy. There is also a size tag with the number 7 on it on the liner.
The stiff patent leather peak retains the brass edging and the Academy brass helmet plate is all present, the brass has a wonderful patina. Both the front decorative chin strap "rings" and the rear leather chin strap are still present.
Overall a wonderful example of a turn of the century West Point Cadet Shako!
