Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This just came out of the attic after a hundred years of storage, together with a couple of hundred other guns. This is a very nice "New England" Percussion Octagonal .36 Caliber barrel hunting gun, which is definitely made in the "Kentucky Rifle" style. The barrel is 39 inches in length however it looks to have a very long breech plug, as the cap bolster is set about 3 inches forward, so the actual length is probably closer to 36 inches. It measures 54 inches overall.
The stock has a cheek piece cut into the butt's left side into which a brass "star" has been inlaid. Made as a half stock weapon fully brass mounted. Lock, very possibly a Trade lock from England but without a Maker's name. Very interesting long wood cleaning rod with faux barber pole type decoration and a brass nose cap. There are a couple of wood chips out of the stock near the rear of the barrel.
An old label attached to the gun when we received it from very long time storage stated that this was a New England style fowling piece. In nice condition, fully cleaned and ready to display!
