Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Designed by the Office of Naval Research's Special Devices Center, this cutaway classroom training model measures 79 inches in overall length, and demonstrates the inner workings of the Browning Model 1919A6 Machine Gun. These are very hard to come by, especially with all the parts still intact and on the original display stand. These were used as a way to familiarize service members with the inner workings of the Browning M1919, which was in use for decades as a front line weapon. It also bears many similarities to the Browning M2, which is still in service today.
The cutaway looks to be complete, however the top cover did crack at one point, and was welded back together. It does still cycle somewhat, but is quite stiff, probably due to being in storage for quite a long time. It still has lots of markings, and the 49" x 13" mounting board still has the correct marking on the top:
WORKING MODEL
BMG CAL. 30 M1919A6
The base also has a fully intact and legible U.S.N. SPECIAL SERVICES CENTER data plate, which indicates that it was manufactured by REFLECTONE CORP, and that it was distributed to MARCORPS, or the U.S. Marine Corps. This may have been on display at Quantico or one of the other Marine Corps installations where machine gunners are trained.
A very nice example, ready to add to your collection and display!
