Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This just came out of the attic after a hundred years of storage, together with a couple of hundred other guns. This is an octagonal barreled Rifled "Kentucky" style rifle, which more correctly is known as a Pennsylvania Rifle. This example is actually made using a BRITISH TRADE back-action percussion lock mechanism marked ATKINSON / WARRANTED on the lock plate. This lock was made by Joseph Atkinson of Lancaster, Lancashire, England who worked at 145 St. Leonard's Gate between 1840 and 1869. This Imported Trade Percussion lock was then acquired by American Gunsmith very possibly in Pennsylvania around which he hand made this fine Pa. Long Rifle.
The rifle has a 33" octagonal Barrel in about .39 Caliber, the usual bore size that these are found in. It is 49" in overall length and has a brass patch box on the right hand side of the stock, the left hand side has a cheek piece. The hook butt plate, trigger guard and small side plate are also of brass.
The Rifle is fitted with a "SET TRIGGER" and is in really fine condition. The barrel has a "buckhorn" type back sight and ALSO a circular type folding quarter coin sized "peep" sight mounted on the barrel tang. There is a repair to the fore end around the area if the barrel wedge which may need regluing.
Most attractive and ready to display!
