Original U.S. Pennsylvania Percussion Rifle with Set Trigger by John P. Lower of Philadelphia

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This just came out of the attic after a hundred years of storage, together with a couple of hundred other guns. Here is a heavy octagonal barreled Rifled "Kentucky" style rifle, which more correctly is known as a Pennsylvania Rifle. This example was actually made in Philadelphia by JOHN P. LOWER., and is marked on top of the barrel with J.P. LOWER PHILA. LOWER worked from 1833 and many yeas later opened a branch with a partner in Denver, Colorado.

The Rifle has the typical down sloping stock with a large brass eared butt plate. It is half stocked and measures 52" in overall length, the barrel being 36" with a heavily rifled small bore of approximately .39", a common size for these rifles. It has a nice Set trigger setup, with brass trigger guard and brass butt plate. Plain percussion lock that looks like it could have once been a flintlock. There is a small wood crack in front of lock plate, easily repaired.

A really nice, uncleaned example of early American Gunsmithing, ideal for restoration!
