Original U.S. Pennsylvania Short Percussion Rifle with Patch Box and Decoration circa 1840

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This just came out of the attic after a hundred years of storage, together with a couple of hundred other guns. Here is a heavy octagonal barreled Rifled "Kentucky" style rifle, which more correctly is known as a Pennsylvania Rifle. This example is fitted with a 20" octagonal barrel of considerable weight, with heavily rifled small bore of approximately .39", a common size for these rifles. This Short Sporting Percussion Rifle is just 36" in overall length.

It has mostly German Silver engraved mounts, which includes Hook Butt Plate, side plate, trigger guard and rear ram rod pipe. It has a nice patch box on the right side of the butt, which still has some original fabric patches! There is also an engraved escutcheon on the left side of the butt. This engraving appears to depict a substantial dwelling above a Lake. Comes complete with cheek piece carved into the left butt stock and ram rod.

Nice and tight with good working action, cleaned and ready to display!
