Original U.S. Post Vietnam War Era Inert Rubber Federal 519 CS Tear Gas Grenade With Fuse Assembly

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Tear gas grenades are similar to smoke grenades in shape and operation. In tear gas grenades, the filler is generally 80 to 120 g (2.8 to 4.2 oz) of CS gas combined with a pyrotechnic composition which burns to generate an aerosol of CS-laden smoke. This causes extreme irritation to the eyes and, if inhaled, to the nose and throat. Occasionally CR gas is used instead of CS.

Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.

This CS Grenade is an outdoor use grenade expelling its payload in approximately 15-20 seconds. The rubber ball round has an overall size of 4.8 in. tall, including the fuze head, and 3.1 in. diameter. This launchable grenade holds approximately 1.6 oz. of active agent which is expelled through three ports around the center of the ball. Due to the intense heat generated by this grenade, it would not have been used inside a building or near flammable material.

The example is in wonderful condition and still retains the legible 519 CS paper sticker label around the center. The 1977 fuse is similar in appearance to the M10 series fuses but is an M20A1 fuse. The M206A2 fuze is smokeless and noiseless and burns for 5 seconds. The M201A1E2 is similar to the M201A1 except for the primer, delay, and igniter are contained in a replaceable cartridge instead of being loaded directly in the fuse body.

A great example ready for further research and display.
