Item Description
Original Item: One Only. Much like our European cousins in the 1880s, the U.S. Army started to adopt sun helmets, especially for use during the hot summer months. These saw active service in the Spanish American War of 1898, especially in the tropical climate in Cuba.
This helmet dates to just after the conflict, probably during the first 10 years of the 20th century. It has a lovely khaki color exterior, with the correct 4 panel construction and top vent cover.
The interior is lined with green fabric under the brim, with khaki fabric inside the crown. The leather sweatband is still fully intact, and has a size 7 label on it.
Overall condition is very good, with a lovely patina and look. Helmet is complete, except for the missing chin strap, which could be replaced. Ready to display!
