Item Description
Original Items. Only One Available. This is a very nice early U.S. flintlock pistol, made circa 1810-1820, which was later converted to percussion. It was made using a "Trade" lock, possibly British, which still has traces of the word WARRANTED on it. It was originally engraved, but it looks like it was refinished when converted to percussion, which removed some of the surface. The filled holes for the frizzen and spring can still easily be seen on the surface of the lock.
The pistol has a heavy octagonal barrel measuring 7 1/2 inches in length, with 7 groove rifling and a bore of about .38". It does not have any markings we can see, and was converted to percussion using a "barrel" style conversion. Overall length of the pistol is 12 3/8 inches, and it looks to probably have been refinished sometime in the past, and now has a lovely varnished finish. There are no markings we can see, but this is not uncommon.
The walnut stock is in very good condition, showing wear from use and age, and some cracking by the lower lock screws. The trigger guard and ramrod pipe are brass, and there is an original brass fitted wooden ramrod held in place under the barrel. We checked the lock, and it is fully functional, holding at half cock and firing at full.
A very nice early U.S. flintlock pistol, later converted to percussion. Ready to research and display!
