Original Item: Only One Available. This a nice totally genuine United States Pennsylvania National Guard officer's kepi used during the very end of Indian Wars or during the outset of the Spanish American War.
This Kepi features a pin with red colored enameled keystone symbol in center with number above crossed rifles and with Company letter below, fabric of dark blue wool broadcloth. The crown stands 2.75" high. The top is 7" in diameter from inner seam to seam. The body of the cap meets a band of wool seamed only at the back and stiffened with leather. The cap's interior is lined with a rayon type fabric. and has a leather 1.5" wide leather sweatband. The crown of the interior was maker marked in silver but the lining has been removed so only traces of the marking remain.
The flat visor is original to the hat, and composed of black patent leather. It is edged with oilcloth that is stitched in place. The kepi features a wide row of gold bullion tape around the band which we think indicates a rank of Major. Gilt cord chinstrap with brass Eagle buttons. Hat size is approximately a US 7 (56cm).
