Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice service used example of a Vietnam War issue Schrade Paratrooper and Pilot knife, with correct orange plastic "jigged bone" handles. These differ from the WWII and Korean war issue knives in that they have a second blade, specifically designed to cut cords. This would be used to help free the owner from tangled parachute rigging, or even their harness if they were a helicopter pilot. The black plastic was replaced with orange to make the knife easier to see in low light conditions.
This used example is in fully functional condition and comes complete with a bale (ring) on the end for a lanyard. This would ensure it wasn't dropped when being used to cut through parachute rigging. Condition is good, but the blades have been significantly altered, as shown in the pictures. The main blade has been ground down to become quite small, now only 2 1/8 inches in overall length. It was most likely used post war, or possibly got damaged, and was reshaped into the current form. The "cord Cutter" also has been altered, with part of the "hook" being broken off. The cutter is not exactly robust, so it's very possible this happened during actual service.
It is marked on the base of the blade with:
SCHRADE
WALDEN
NY USA
STAINLESS
These knives were usually carried in the breast pocket, for easy access when needed. The bale on the end mad sure that if the owner dropped it, they could easily retrieve it.
