Original U.S. Vietnam War M1-C Paratrooper Helmet with Reversible Mitchell Camouflage Cover

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a nice lightly worn example of a Vietnam War M-1C Airborne Paratrooper’s Helmet. These are getting harder and harder to find as time goes on, especially complete.

This Vietnam War Helmet M-1. The helmet shell has a set of swivel (movable) chinstrap loops called bales and a stainless steel rim. These rims were both rust resistant and had non-magnetic qualities that reduced the chance of error readings when placed around certain sensitive equipment (such as a compass). The helmet shows signs of being reconditioned in a military depot, which was common during the period for late WWII/Korean War helmets.

The Mitchell pattern camouflage cover is in good condition and bears a 1973 stock number. The cover shows reasonable wear, only from honest use and handling. It comes with an original foliage elastic helmet band that is in excellent, worn condition as well.

The helmet liner is in decent original condition, showing signs of being worn in a hot humid environment. Markings are present on the liner suspension but are unfortunately illegible.

The “U.S.” stamp on the chin strap is no longer visible as well. The rear nape strap is also intact, although the date is illegible as well.

The chin strap is intact, and also has extensions with snaps on the end, which secure the liner to the shell for paratrooper use.

This helmet is a fine example and still retains all of its original Vietnam War parts and paint.
