Original U.S. WWI 36th Division 141st Infantry Machine Gun Company Named Grouping

Original Items: One-of-a-kind Set. Private First Class Early Erwin Baggett ASN 1489163 of Dodge City Kansas served in the 36th Division 141st Infantry Machine Gun Company. He fought in World War One at the Meuse-Argonne campaign and this collection of his Army issue uniform and other gear was recently acquired from the Bob Ford collection, with Mr. Ford having acquired the group directly from Private Baggett's widow Alice.

The 36th Infantry Division "Arrowhead", also known as the "Panther Division", "Lone Star Division", "The Texas Army", or the "T-patchers", is an infantry division of the United States Army and part of the Texas Army National Guard. It was organized during World War I from units of the Texas and Oklahoma National Guard.

The unit was sent to Europe in July 1918 and conducted major operations in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. On 9–10 October, the unit participated in heavy combat near the village of St. Etienne. Following this victory, which included the capture of several hundred men and officers of the German Army, as well as artillery, the unit launched an assault near an area known as "Forest Farm." The eventual victory brought World War I to an end, yet during World War I, the division suffered 2,584 casualties, 466 killed in action and 2,118 wounded in action. The unit was inactivated in June 1919.

Included in this set are the following items:

- Original August 15th, 1987 letter from Mrs. E.E. Baggett thanking Bob Ford for his check she also included an original wartime photo of her husband in this uniform as well as a photocopy of his Honorable Discharge.

- Army tunic with 36th Infantry Division Arrowhead insignia on left shoulder, private chevron, overseas chevrons, 141st Infantry Collar disc and Machine Gunner Collar disc also includes matching Jodphur style trouser with belt and his ASN written in the waistband (1489163).

- Fantastic M1917 Helmet with wonderful handprinted 36th Infantry Division Arrowhead Insignia to front. Helmet retains complete liner and chinstrap.

- Original dog tags (2) which read Early E. Baggett U.S.A. 1489163

- Putties

- Overseas Garrison cap.

- Gas mask in bag named to Pvt. Early E. Baggett 1489163

- Dozens of period post cards, many of war scenes, some of women and many of the French countryside including houses, estates and much more.

- Copies of original wartime documents that include Honorable Discharge, Draft Card, Ship Passenger Lists for the 141st Infantry Machine Gun Company naming Baggett.

Overall a wonderful set with full provenance of a U.S. Solider in the Allied Expedition Force that fought in WW1. Fantastic!
