Item Description
Original Item: Only One Lot of 2 Available. The M3, M13 and M13A1 binoculars were issued to all branches of the U.S. military during WW2. The M3 was the first model, which was acceptable, but was superseded by the M13 and M13A1, which resolved issues with the M3, particularly with regard to water proofing. The later models also introduced coated optics (like this example) to reduce glare. A total of 43,378 were made at an original price of $72/ea., however the majority were the later versions, and many M3s were removed from service once damaged by water. For this reason the M3s are harder to find on the market.
This M3 example is marked clearly on the left plate with 6x30 and on the right plate with UNIVERSAL CAMERA CORP NEW YORK U.S.A. There is no M3 designation but these are without a doubt a good example.
The older brass 6x30 binoculars we believe to be from WWI or immediate post war use. They are marked as being MILITARY STEREO / 6X30 and were manufactured by Talbot Reel and MFG Co.
The focus diopters both function and turn easily. The textured covering on the set is in very good condition, with no cracks or chips. It also has an original leather neck strap on the M3 but not the other set.
Comes ready for display.
