Original Item: One-of-a-kind set. The 51st Infantry Regiment was constituted 15 May 1917 at Chickamauga Park, Georgia, and then assigned on 16 November 1917 to the 6th Infantry Division.
The 51st Infantry Regiment was part of the 11th Brigade, 6th Infantry division and went overseas in June 1918, and saw 43 days of combat. Casualties totaled 386 (KIA: 38; WIA: 348).
The 6th Division saw combat in the Geradmer sector, Vosges, France, 3 September 18 October 1918, and during the Meuse-Argonne offensive 111 November 1918.
This excellent condition set features the following pieces:
WWI issue khaki cotton tunic with 6th Infantry Division red star and 6 wool patch insignia on left shoulders well as two overseas service bars on left cuff. Features 51st Infantry Regiment, Company H collar tab, WWI Victory Medal ribbon bar and correct U.S. Eagle brass buttons. Overall condition is excellent.
M1917 Doughboy helmet with 6th Infantry Division red star insignia and original textured brown paint. The shell is maker marked ZE59 and is missing the liner and most of the chinstrap. Overall condition of the shell is excellent.
Overall a very nice set from the very hard to find AEF 51st Infantry Regiment, a matched tunic and helmet.
