Item Description
Original Item: One-of-a-kind. Throughout the late 19th and 20th centuries it was not an uncommon practice for soldiers, especially officers during WWI and WWII on all sides of the conflict to outfit his son in a scaled down replica of their own uniform.
This custom provides insight into the fervor of the times; a child dressed in a uniform as seen here, gives a glimpse of the time of World War I, the patriotism and the loss of a father traveling to war.
This is a high quality period authentic U.S. Army captain’s uniform custom made for a boy of about 4 years of age. The tunic is constructed of the correct khaki wool, with authentic correct US buttons, U.S. collar insignia, crossed rifles collar insignia, and embroidered captain’s bars to the shoulders. Of particular interest is the wool peaked officer cap with leather brim and sweatband, correct brass buttons, and brass US army insignia.
All in all this is a wonderful hard to find collector’s piece for the little boy in us all!
