Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original WWI Era United States Army Officer visor cap with the mohair band removed, and the typical Eagle cap badge replaced with an artillery "Crossed Cannons" badge over number 78. The Cap features a black patent leather covered pressed paper or fiber visor, with a leather chin strap held in by plain split pins. The cap has a very nice condition leather liner, and the hat size is marked as a 7 1/8 (57cm) under the rear of the liner.
The cap looks to be a "warm weather" version, and has a gauze crown lining, with lovely stitched in embroidered ventilation strips on the outer crown. There is also still a maker label on the inside, indicating it was made by EAGLESON & CO. / LOS ANGELES CAL. THe cap is definitely well made, most likely bespoke, though it does not have the usual accoutrements we would expect on an officer's cap.
Overall a great cap from the WWI era, ready to add to any collection.
