Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a great large Panoramic Yardlong of Company H, 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Division. The yardlong comes with a packet of information titled “The Most Decorated Company of the 29th Division”, and notes the man holding up the company sign as 2nd Lieutenant Patrick Regan, Medal of Honor Recipient. His citation reads:
While leading his platoon against a strong enemy machine gun nest which had held up the advance of two companies, Second Lieutenant Regan divided his men into three groups, sending one group to either flank, and he himself attacking with an automatic rifle team from the front. Two of the team were killed outright, while Second Lieutenant Regan and the third man were seriously wounded, the latter unable to advance. Although severely wounded, Second Lieutenant Regan dashed with an empty pistol into the machinegun nest, capturing 30 Austrian gunners and four machineguns. This gallant deed permitted the companies to advance, avoiding a terrific enemy fire. Despite his wounds, he continued to lead his platoon forward until ordered to the rear by his commanding officer.
The yardlong also has seven Distinguished Service Cross Recipients, including Artie E. Bolton, Robert S. Landstreet, Hugh P. McGainey, Pietro De Berardinis, Thomas F. Streb, and John E. Ferguson. The included packet denotes all of their DSC citations as well as pointing them out in the yardlong, and can be read online here: WWI Panoramic Photo – The Most Decorated Company of the 29th Division: Company H, 115th Infantry Regiment.
The yardlong is in rough shape, with the glass entirely absent, but thankfully the image hasn’t suffered much. The frame is the original WWI period frame, and it could use new glass, but would display fine as is. There are some scuffs and scratches in the image, but not anywhere that particularly matters. The photo was taken in a French town in 1919, with gorgeous scenery across.
The frame measures 11½ x 40½”, a great large size. The back of the frame is mounted with wire, so this comes ready to hang! Comes ready for further research and display!
