Item Description
Original Items. Only One Lot Available. This is a fantastic collection of five beautifully painted wall insignia for units of the American Expeditionary Forces. These were painted and hung in an American Legion / VFW sometime after the war. They are all in varying sizes and have holes to allow for mounting.. The insignia included are:
-The 1st Division - the first division to arrive overseas and one of the most combat-torn, the Big Red One. Measures 10½ x 18”.
-The 40th Engineer Regiment - The Camouflage Engineers! Made up of famous painters and sculptors chosen by the Army to paint camouflage on their equipment. Features a lizard over a black triangle. Unfortunately the bottom tip has broken off but otherwise it is great. Measures 7½ x 17½”.
-II Corps - The 27th & 30th Divisions made up this corps which served with the British during the Somme Offensive. Very rare! Unfortunately this one has the most damage with a large chunk missing on the top left side. Features a bird and lion with II in between. Measures 14 x 21½”.
-The 86th Division - One of the skeleton divisions whose men were used to replenish other divisions who suffered heavy losses overseas. A rare insignia to find! The Blackhawk Division! Measures 16 x 18¼”.
-The Corps of Engineers - one of the most beautiful in the group, the Engineer’s castle with 13 stars surrounding it for the 13 Colonies. This corps made up most non-divisional engineer units, of which there were hundreds! A very scarce insignia. This includes the FIRST AMERICAN TROOPS TO SEE COMBAT DURING WORLD WAR I - the 11th Engineer Regiment! Measures 17¾ x 17⅞”.
This is a fantastic group of insignia sure to bring much-needed color into any US WWI collection. Comes ready for display!
